Continuum International Summer Institute(ISI)

Continuum ISI offers a bespoke programme devised specifically to support the research skills and capacity building of McNair scholars. A limited number of places are available annually for individuals or groups of McNair scholars, accompanied or unaccompanied by McNair staff, to participate in this programme.

The programme runs from the end of June through to either mid or the end of July depending on institutional requirements. The first two weeks comprise an intensive academic programme and conference; whilst during the optional second two weeks,  learners and faculty pursue independent research and undertake self-directed study, supported by ISI faculty.

The programme has a broad academic focus and considers issues such as: social justice and access to higher education for under-represented groups. In addition there are seminars on the UK education system and specialist seminars based on research interests of participants.  Learners will also be able to participate in research methods workshops delivered by ISI and UEL faculty to support their independent research.

A unique component  of the programme is the opportunity to participate in a three day residential international conference organised by the Forum for Access and Continuing Education which attracts academics, policy makers, researchers and policy makers from the UK and overseas. The 2013 FACE conference will be hosted at the University of Plymouth.
