Programme Specification for Law (Major, Joint or Minor)

Campus: Stratford

Why Study Law as part of a Combined Honours Degree?

  • Law reflects and influences all aspects of human behaviour
  • Law occupies a fundamental position in the fabric of national and international society
  • Law graduates are valued for their intellectual maturity and analytical skills
  • Law major graduates are exempt from the academic stage of training for qualification as a barrister or solicitor

What will I study?

You will explore the substance and processes of law. Law major students will study the core modules required for professional exemptions including contract law, criminal law, European union law and constitutional and administrative law. Minor and joint students will study fewer law modules based mainly on personal preference. Varied and interesting options include Immigration Law, Child Law, Consumer Law, Medicine and Law and Company Law.

Which modules will I study?

You can view a full guide to the Programmess you have to study as part of your chosen pathway, along with a full range of option modules available by viewing the Single & Combined Honours Programmes Guide for Law

Can I study a Combined Honours Programme as a Part-time degree?

All our Combined Honours Programmes can be studied on a Part-time or Full-time basis. As a Part-time student, you will study the same degree programme, but at a slower pace. You will study up to 4 modules per year (instead of 6 as a full-time student). Some Law modules are available for evening study.

What career opportunities are open to me if I study Law?

As a graduate from the study of law you should emerge as an intellectually mature and skilled person who is sufficiently confident and flexible to take on the challenge of legal or other work (whether or not law related) in a fast changing, internationalist and technological world. In addition, you should leave us with the ability and ambition to go on learning.

The School of Law is committed to ensuring a high quality experience in the teaching and learning of law. The School comprises more than 25 full-time academic staff, the majority having postgraduate and/or professional experience. Particular attention is paid to the wider curriculum beyond the classroom with moots, skills training and distinguished speakers.
