Why Study Illustration as part of a Combined Honours Degree?

This programme enables you to develop a deep understanding of the language, methods and skills of Illustration. Focusing on the development of drawing, composition and visual communication, the programme challenges you to develop individual responses for a broad range of illustration solutions for projects that might be editorial, narrative, comic, satirical, fashion, natural world, forensic, etc.

Our lecturers are all practising artists and designers, many of whom are internationally recognised. We have a strong commitment to a programme of invited speakers and industry specialists who make an active contribution to the programmes, setting live projects and providing you with opportunities for work experience and employability studies.

What will I study?

Students are able to investigate their ideas with an emphasis on Illustration or with combined honours in pathways such as Animation or Graphic Design. Students are able to draw upon a substantial knowledge of practice, technical support and theoretical underpinning within the field and school.  In the field we are seeking to encourage students to value the relationship between traditional and new technologies within the context of contemporary practice.

Can I study a Combined Honours Programme as a Part-time degree?

All our Combined Honours Programmes can be studied on a Part-time or Full-time basis. As a Part-time student, you will study the same degree programme, but at a slower pace. You will study up to 4 modules per year (instead of 6 as a full-time student).

What career opportunities are open to me if I study Illustration?

Graduates are able to pursue careers in media and image-related industries: publishing, advertising, packaging, wildlife && botanical Illustration, TV/Film & stage design, comics, animation, archive/documentation, research, post graduate, artist or designer etc. to name but a few.

Entry Requirements

240 ucas points (including two passes at A2 level, one of which should be in Art and Design) plus GCSE English grade C.

How do I apply?

If you wish to study with us full-time from September, you will need to make your application via UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk).

If you wish to study with us part-time you can obtain an application form from our admissions department study@uel.ac.uk or apply on-line
