Electronics is at the heart of most modern industries, activities and communications systems. Many other industries rely on electronics, computing and IT such as banking and manufacturing companies producing a wide variety of products.
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering programmes at UEL have proved to be popular for many years. We have developed programmes that are current and will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding and skills. With very good facilities for laboratory and practical work you will be able to reinforce the theories and practices learnt in the classroom via 'hands on' experience. Our programmes offer you the opportunity to study the fundamental knowledge and theories required by all Electronic and Electronics Engineers and apply these to the practical work environment.
Project work is an important feature of this programme. Throughout your studies you will undertake small projects as part of the module assessment. During the final year of the programme you will be required to complete independent research and study of a technical subject in the form of a project. This project will be supervised by a member of staff with an interest in the subject and will normally include laboratory work or the analysis of a specific engineering problem. The project often requires students to take an idea through to a working model. The project constitutes one quarter of the final year of the programme.
You will study, amongst other things, the areas of:
You can view a full guide to the modules you have to study as part of your chosen pathway, along with a full range of option modules available by viewing the Single & Combined Honours Programmes Guide for Electrical and Electronic Engineering
All our Combined Honours Programmes can be studied on a Part-time or Full-time basis. As a Part-time student, you will study the same degree programme, but at a slower pace. You will study up to 4 modules per year (instead of 6 as a full-time student).
Students that are awarded a BEng (Hons) degree will be able to work in a very wide variety of disciplines. These include areas such as radio and television, sound recording, the electricity supply and telephone systems.
This programme allows you to obtain either a good job, or to gain entry to an MSc programme. The programme will also be of benefit by contributing to your transferable skills teaching you, more generally, how to study. During the final year project, you will learn and demonstrate that you are able to take an idea through design and development to produce a functional solution to a given problem. These are all skills that will be attractive to a potential employer, or to admissions tutors on MSc programmes.
We have over 5000 different combinations and you can choose from over 75 pathways. Please visit this page www.uel.ac.uk/combined/programmes for a full list.
240 UCAS tariff points (including two passes at A2 level, with a minimum grade D in A2 Mathematics or a Science subject). In addition to the above, we require GCSE Maths and English grade C or above.
If you wish to study with us full-time from September, you will need to make your application via UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk).
If you wish to study with us part-time you can obtain an application form from our admissions department study@uel.ac.uk or apply on-line
