Why Study Computer Networks as part of a Combined Honours Degree?

Well-engineered, reliable and usable systems are crucial to the survival of virtually all organisations, to the functioning of the global economy and even for our entertainment. People who can build and maintain these systems will be in continual demand in the future. This field of study is both challenging and rewarding. It introduces you to modern technologies and equips you with essential problem solving, communications and business skills.
What will I study?
In this programme students focus on the networks and computer hardware which combine to make distributed systems. They also look at the software which is necessary for computers to communicate over networks.

Can I study a Combined Honours Programme as a Part-time degree?
All our Combined Honours Programmes can be studied on a Part-time or Full-time basis. As a Part-time student, you will study the same degree programme, but at a slower pace. You will study up to 4 modules per year (instead of 6 as a full-time student).
What career opportunities are open to me if I study Computer Networks?
A background in computing would enhance your career opportunities if you wished to pursue a career that involved systems analysis, technical support, network design, database design and administration, software development or technology management.
This programme successfully prepares you for networking and IT-related jobs in the public and private sectors, as well as for higher education in engineering, computer science, and related fields. Graduates from this programme might look towards careers in network design and support.
Work Placement Opportunities

Entry Requirements
200 UCAS tariff points (including two passes at A2 level) plus GCSE Maths and English grade C or above.
How do I apply?
If you wish to study with us full-time from September, you will need to make your application via UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk).
If you wish to study with us part-time you can obtain an application form from our admissions department study@uel.ac.uk or apply on-line.
