Applying for a course during clearing is easy. There are a number of ways you can do this. Follow our easy to follow steps and secure a place today.

English and Maths Tests

Each and every programme at UEL requires a minimum standard of English, Maths or both, so that you are able to cope with the academic and assessment demands of Higher Education study.
If you don’t meet the required standards of English and/or Maths then UEL offers alternative English and maths tests so that you still have the opportunity to study with us.

English Testing

UK Applicants

All UK applicants must have achieved a GCSE Grade C or higher in English language or literature. Equivalencies for this Level 2 qualification can include:

  • Key Skills Communication Level 2
  • Adult Literacy Level 2
  • Functional Skills Level 2
  • Access programme pass (Access programmes include Level 2 qualifications for both English and Math)
  • 14-19 Diplomas (to pass the overall qualification applicants must have achieved a Grade C GCSE equivalent in English, Maths and ICT)

If you do not have any of these qualifications and you were educated in the UK, you need to book a native speaker English test.

How do I book a test?
When you call to apply for a course at UEL, you will be booked in for a test if the person taking the call says you need one. Call 020 8 223 3333 for further information.

When do the tests take place?
Tests start from 20 August and will take place during the day. You will be emailed with w time a location for your test.

When will I find out the results?
Once you have taken the test, the Language Centre will email your result within 48 hours. You will then receive an email confirming your offer of a place at UEL if you have passed your test.

Tests are run at the Barking Learning Centre and at our Dockalnds Campus

 

How much does the test cost?
Tests are free if you are applying for a course at UEL

What happens if I don’t pass the test?
If you don’t pass the test then unfortunately your application for a place on the course will not be successful.

Non-UK Applicants

Testing of English language skills is equally important for non-UK applicants and these will be tested prior to being offered a place on a course. The following list includes the accepted internationally recognised qualifications:

  • International GCSE (IGCSE) – Grade C or above
  • TOEFL
  • IELTS

If you don’t have either of these qualifications you will need to book an English Language test

If you do not meet the English language requirements for Direct Entry onto your degree following the written test, you may have the option of taking a Pre-sessional English course for later entry onto your course. They will have to take a Secure English Language Test, E.g. IELTS (Academic), TOEFL, CAE, PTE or TOEIC (Academic) to be given a Pre-sessional offer. This information will be communicated to applicants / nominated School staff by the Language Centre.

Maths Testing

Some programmes at UEL require a certain level of mathematics in order for students to manage the academic and assessment demands of Higher Education study. For UK applicants, this is a GCSE Grade C or higher. Equivalencies for this Level 2 qualification include:

  • Key Skills Application of Number Level 2
  • Adult Numeracy Level 2
  • Functional Skills Level 2
  • Access programme pass (Access programmes include Level 2 qualifications for both English and Math)

If you do not have any of these qualifications and need to have a Maths GCSE for your courses, you will be offered a maths test.
