
The Centre for Institutional Studies (CIS) is dedicated to undertaking research which contributes to the improvement of public policies.
The Centre’s name and approach to research is derived from the work of Sir Karl Popper and in developing this approach the Centre is unique in this country. You can read more about the CIS Approach here on our website.
Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on public and community services and other related courses are taught by CIS staff. Details can be found in the Teaching Programmes section.
The intention of these seminars is to provide a stimulus to critical but amiable discussion of social policies and institutions, and consider ideas about improving them.

The Centre for Institutional Studies has a built up an impressive portfolio of research since it was established in 1970. Its distinctive approach to policy analysis, evaluation and institutional effectiveness, based on a Popperian approach, has enabled CIS to establish itself as a distinctive research centre in its field.
