Join the movement that trained the young Barack Obama...and has won over £40million for London’s lowest paid workers
UEL’s Chaplaincy Team is involved in London Citizens, an alliance of over 150 religious and civic groups, working together for the common good. Its local membership includes East London Mosque and London Buddhist Centre – alongside Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist and Pentecostal churches.

The members work together on four main campaigns, chosen and run by local people: The Living Wage Campaign (which has won £40m for low-paid Londoners), CitySafe (begun by young people to tackle street crime), Ethical Olympics (which has already won a Living Wage Olympics – and is fighting for 2012 affordable homes on the Olympic Park after the games) and Citizens for Sanctuary (which persuaded the new Coalition to end the detention of children seeking refuge in the UK).
There are opportunities for UEL students to get involved as volunteers – and to apply for paid internships in the summer.
Living Wage – Dr Tim Hall (Politics Lecturer at UEL: t.w.hall@uel.ac.uk)
City Safe and other Campaigns - Amma Asante (Community Organising Intern at UEL: uelcitizens@theology-centre.org)
