We are delighted to announce the final line up for CEWE’s inaugural Conference on Thursday 17th November 2011 at the Honourable Artillery Company.  The day is packed with opportunities for you to network with fellow entrepreneurs, develop your skills and take the next step on your entrepreneurial journey!  Whether you've got the seeds of a business idea, are already trading but looking for new opportunities and connections or want to share your success and give something back, this is the event for you. Throughout the day, we will be offering 1-2-1 advice sessions with experts in marketing, finance, social media and business growth - slots are first-come first served and will be released to those who have already booked their places on 1st November.

Conference timings

You can arrive at the HAC from 8.15am where you’ll be welcomed by the CEWE team, have a chance to get your caffeine fix and look around the venue before the hard work begins.  The conference will close at 4.15pm, when there will be a chance for delegates to make those all important connections over drinks and nibbles before heading home.

9.00am Conference Opening: A chance to hear the Minister Baroness Wilcox, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), followed by Q+A

We are delighted that Baroness Wilcox, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) will open the Conference. Hear first hand how BIS will put the Prime Minister’s plans to support entrepreneurs into practice!

9.15am A Global Perspective Agus Muharram, MSP Deputy Minister of State, Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises, Republic of Indonesia

This week is Global Entrepreneurship Week – get a global perspective on entrepreneurship from the Indonesian government and hear about some of the initiatives they are implementing to support entrepreneurs. 

9.30am A Welcome from CEWE Sunny Crouch, Chair of CEWE

Sunny Crouch OBE, winner of the first London Docklands Business Person of the Year Award and the first SHINE Award for ‘being an inspiration to other women’, will be our Conference Chair throughout the day.

9.40am CEWE - The Story so far Selena Bolingbroke, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of East London

CEWE has come a long way since our launch event ‘Celebrating and Promoting Women’s Entrepreneurship’ at City Hall in November 2010. This is your chance to hear about the last 12 months and shape our plans for the future.

Access to Finance is one of the biggest barriers to growth that women’s businesses face. Diana Brightmore-Armour will share Lloyds Banking Group’s plans to support businesses to overcome these barriers and become the next big business.

What can we learn from the experiences and successes of women entrepreneurs?  Research has an important role in influencing priorities and shaping enterprise policy.  Rebecca Harding will share her latest research and provide ideas and challenges to think about for your own business.

  • A Young Entrepreneur's Story: Emily Little, Graduate of the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy

At 17, Emily Little was one of the first graduates of the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy; she is now MD of a photography business, as well as freelancing in marketing & mobile marketing and is investing in the next generation of businesses!

Do you have to have someone to support you on your journey? Someone to advise, to be a critical friend and to open up doors? Wilma is one of our first CEWE Patrons who is sharing her expertise, skills and experience with Leila; their insights could help you make that important next step.

Vote for your favourite CEWE Marketplace Trader and give them a chance to pitch to the Conference later in the afternoon!

2.15pm: MOT Your Business

Is your business in order?  Can it cope with change?  And are you ready as an entrepreneur to take the next step?  MOT your business in this interactive session with input from 4 business experts – and take away a new perspective! Experts include: Carole Spiers (Stress Management), Ian Mistlin (the Perfect Pitch), Griselda Kumordzie Togobo (A Profitable Business) and Jason Dear (Business Continuity).

3.15pm: Roll Up, Roll Up CEWE Marketplace

Our panel of judges – including Carrie Longton, Co-Founder Mumsnet, Janette Withey, Chair of Docklands Business Club and Jodie Hughes from Adspad – will put the traders through their paces. Are they ready to take the next step? Who will walk away with the title of CEWE Marketplace Trader of the Year?

3.45pm: A word from the wise

Carrie Longton, Co-Founder of Mumsnet, will share the story of how Mumsnet became the busiest online network of parents, with 1.6 million unique visitors a month.  Hear about Carrie’s successes and what advice she would give to those looking to follow in her footsteps.

4.10pm: Conference Closes: Closing remarks from Sunny Crouch OBE, Chair of CEWE

4.15pm: Make A Connection: Networking and Nibbles

6.00pm: Close
