Good Physics teachers are in short supply. This new course is aimed at practising teachers who are already qualified to teach in schools and colleges, but who currently are not qualified to teach Physics. These teachers may already be teaching Physics or
may wish to teach Physics in the future; equally the course could be of benefit to qualified teachers returning to teaching.
Our School has a long and successful history of providing excellent quality subject knowledge enhancement courses in Physics for pre-service teachers, staffed by qualified and experienced teachers in state-of-the-art laboratories. UEL is one of a small number of providers who have been selected to run the Physics Subject Knowledge CPD course for in-service teachers who do not have a formal qualification in Physics, but who would like to upgrade their subject knowledge.
This is an innovative and enjoyable training course that explores Physics in a range of contexts across key stage 3 and 4, with the occasional dip into A-level, as required.
You will gain a deeper understanding of Physics concepts and constructs through study and hands-on practical workshops. There is a strong focus on helping participants to experience “how to teach” a particular topic or concept.
Modules include:
The course aims to cover one module per half-term.
Assessment
There are no formal assessment points in this course. Each module does, however, contain a number of self-testing elements to enable participants to review and track their progress.
Your future career
The course starts you on the path of acquiring Physics Pedagogic Content Knowledge. Extending your subject knowledge enhances your own confidence, and ability to engage pupils across a broader and deeper range of Physics knowledge and understanding. It is envisaged that teachers who complete this course will choose to complement their current teaching by also teaching Physics, if they do not already do so. Given the current shortage of good Physics teachers, teaching in this area can have a very positive effect on your future career.
