Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course (MEC)
What the course covers
Good Mathematics teachers are in short supply. This new course is aimed at practising teachers who are already qualified to teach in schools and colleges, but who currently are not qualified to teach Mathematics. These teachers may already be
teaching Mathematics or may wish to teach Mathematics in the future; equally the course could be of benefit to qualified teachers returning to teaching.
Our School has a long and successful history of providing excellent quality subject knowledge enhancement courses in Mathematics for pre-service teachers, staffed by qualified and experienced teachers. UEL is one of a small number of providers who have been selected to run the Mathematics Subject Knowledge CPD course for in-service teachers who do not have a formal qualification in Mathematics, but who would like to upgrade their subject knowledge.
This is an innovative and enjoyable training course that explores Mathematics in a range of contexts across Key Stage 3 and 4. You will gain a deeper understanding of Mathematics concepts and constructs through study and hands-on practical
workshops. There is a strong focus on helping participants to experience “how to teach” a particular topic or concept.
Eligibility
This training is available if you already have:
- an element of Mathematics in your degree programme and/or occupational experience of the subject
- another national curriculum subject as your degree, are in possession of an A-Level in Mathematics and have relevant additional experience
- a conditional offer from an ITT provider in London or south-east England.
Please note there is no direct entry on to the course.
