Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course (MEC)

If you are interested in teaching Mathematics but don’t feel that you have enough subject knowledge then this is the course for you. The course gives you the opportunity to develop your subject knowledge further before beginning secondary teacher training.

This is an innovative and enjoyable training course with a strong emphasis on discussing mathematical ideas and using ICT.

Learning takes place through taught sessions, practical and investigative sessions, seminar presentations, self-study units and external visits and activities. There are also additional mathematics and ICT sessions for those who need these.

  • An intensive 24 week course that runs from January to July, for those who want to teach Maths but whose degree is not a direct match or whose specialist subject knowledge needs deepening prior to training for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • A course that equips you with the skills and subject knowledge to teach 11–16 year olds, with the potential to teach to A-Level standard

  • A course whereby, upon completion, you can continue on to Initial Teacher Training (ITT) at UEL or another training provider.
