Course dates

The next Chemistry Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course will run from January - July 2013 (24 weeks). Upon successful completion of the course, students will move onto their chosen programme of Initial Teacher Training (PGCE, GTP or SCITT) at UEL or another training provider.

Key facts

  • An intensive programmes for graduates who want to teach chemistry but whose degree is not in chemistry or whose specialist subject knowledge needs deepening prior to training for qualified teacher status (QTS)
  • The course will prepare successful students to teach chemistry to at least the standard required to teach 11-16 year olds (GCSE). The intention is that most students will reach the standard required to teach to A-level standard
  • Applicants must have already secured an offer of place on an initial teacher training programme
  • No tuition fees - students who are assessed as home fee status will have their tuition fees paid by the National College for Teaching and Leadership and may also be eligible for a training bursary to support their living costs. International students are not eligible to apply for this course.
