Brief biography

I obtained my original qualification (Cert. Ed) at St.Osyth's College, from where I went to join Nottingham LEA. I taught Mathematics there, in Eastwood (home of D. H. Lawrence of "Lady Chatterley" fame), first at the Secondary Modern School, then at the newly-reorganised High School. From there I went to the London Borough of Redbridge, teaching Mathematics at Fairlop Boys' School, where I became Second in the Mathematics department. I retained that post when that school was reorganised as Fairlop High School. I was acting Head of Department for a year.

I left Redbridge to join an adjacent London Borough, Havering, as a member of their Support Team, before joining Abbs Cross School as Head of Mathematics in 1982.

I remained there until I retired from teaching in 2006, having worked my way to Deputy Head (although still teaching Mathematics).

I obtained a B.A. through the Open University, and subsequently a Masters Degree in Education from King's College London, in Mathematics Education.

In 2006 I joined UEL on a temporary basis, working mainly to help set up and teach on the initial Mathematics Enhancement Course. I was appointed to work from Septmber 2007 on delivering the Mathematics PGCE course and to continue to support the MEC programme.
