Brief biography

Degrees

  • PhD from the Institute of Education, University of London;
  • MA in Education from the Open University;
  • PGCE (Primary) from the University of East London;
  • BA (Hons) in English language and literature from Hull University (2:1).

Other qualifications:

I have taught in Junior and Primary schools in Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham (both London Local Authorities). During this time I coordinated dance and drama, science, and PSHE/Citizenship. However, my main specialism is English.  My MA (Ed) focused on language and literacy in social context, and gender studies. My PhD, used conversation analysis to examine the talk-in-interaction between teaching assistants and groups of pupils during literacy intervention sessions.

Since joining UEL in 2003, I have worked on the Primary PGCE.  I have been lead tutor for English, Primary National Strategy coordinator, and deputy programme leader.

Since 2005 I have also been a CPD tutor, developing, leading and teaching on a variety of core and optional modules, and tutoring dissertation students.

In September 2008 I became the Programme Leader for the MA Education.

I have also maintained a keen personal interest in Elizabethan theatre, and the teaching of Shakespeare in schools.
