Initially seconded to UEL to set up the Subject Knowledge Enhancement course for Chemistry. My previous experience has been as a teacher and Local Authority Education officer and Inspector. I gained my PhD in 1972 - in theoretical chemistry then qualified as a secondary teacher. I taught mathematics and science, specializing in chemistry, in three different local schools, grammar and comprehensive, mixed and single sexed, voluntary and maintained, varying in sizes from 600 to 1500 pupils.
I moved from schools into local education authority work. I managed EIC Partnership work and delivery of national government initiative, and the 20 staff involved in school support & INSET. I was an OFSTED inspector, and have inspected many schools both primary and secondary. I have worked mostly in inner London, including the ILEA.
