  • 1996    BA (Hons) in Education Studies from Anglia Polytechnic University (2.1)
  • 2002    MSc in Leadership and management in Schools from UEL

Other Qualifications

  • 1974    Certificate in Education Loughborough College of Higher Education

Having qualified as a teacher in 1974 I taught in Primary schools in Nottingham, Sunderland and Leicestershire before moving to London in 1985. There I taught in the London Borough of Redbridge for three years before taking up a Deputy Headship in the London Borough of Waltham Forest in 1988. I was promoted to Headteacher in 1992 and continued there until 2000 when I was seconded as a Consultant to a school in Special Measures. I continued in Headship in a three-form entry Primary school in Redbridge for two years, bringing it out of Serious Weaknesses during my tenure.

I left Headship in 2004 to pursue various activities in Education. As well as tutoring for UEL on the Masters Programme for teachers and on the Foundation Degree for teaching assistants, I tutor for the National Professional Qualification for Headteachers and Leadership pathways programmes for the NCSL. I undertake a range of consultancy work for schools and am contracted by a number of companies to deliver INSET to teachers.
