I am very interested in raising standards in quality, learning and teaching in primary and higher education, by improving access to learning. I am an eager supporter of widening participation and inclusion policies, embracing equality and diversity.

I am a Senior Lecturer in the area of Primary Initial Teacher Education where I work with a team to deliver Primary PGCE Programmes for Postgraduates and Professional Graduates working to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I currently specialise in the science, ICT and mathematics subject areas which are delivered in such a way as to support both cross-curricular and core learning. I also teach on the programme’s Masters level modules, which address the professional development of teachers. As a Professional Tutor, I work with a number of primary schools in partnership with UEL, supporting mentors and supervising trainees on placements.

I have held academic posts in the Department of Education at London Metropolitan University and at the Higher Education Academy’s Subject Centre for Health Sciences & Practice based at King’s College, London – supporting and promoting ‘best/next practice’ in learning and teaching in higher education UK wide. I was a Lecturer in Electronics and Computing at Brunel University for many years, research active in the fields of artificial neural networks; intelligent interfaces; ubiquitous and situated computing. I was also involved with the initial and in-service training of Design and Technology teachers. I am a qualified teacher with a Masters in Science Education from King’s College, London and experience of teaching in both primary and secondary settings. I am a member of the British Computer Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Unusually for someone working in primary education, I am a Chartered Engineer and Chartered IT Professional.

My research and scholarly activities currently centre on  promoting computer science and programming in schools, through the working group ‘Computing at School’, www.computingatschool.org.uk, supported by the British Computer Society;  and promoting innovation in primary schools through the work of the CPR National Primary Network, www.primaryreview.org.uk , particularly in the London region
