I am the Programme Leader for the Masters in Teaching in Learning. I was previously the Programme Leader for Initial Teacher Training programme in Secondary Information Communication Technology. I oversaw ICT resources for Secondary PGCE with the Director of Secondary Teacher Education.
The programme I run is focused on producing high quality teachers proficient in ICT for the local area. This involves building partnerships with local schools and training teachers in how to mentor Beginning Teachers. I observe and grade lesson in order to ensure Quality Assurance issues are addressed.
Prior to this I have held many roles from being a partner in an interior decoration business (repro sculpture) to being a youth worker for a children's charity and most recently a teacher.
I have taught in East London for fourteen years in the London Borough of Newham and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. I finished my career in teaching as a Head of Faculty for Technology and ICT managing a team of 14.
I was Deputy Leader of the Waltham Forest Council. I was also the portfolio holder for Performance Management, Best Value, Finance, Procurement, Human Resources and IT. I was prior to this Chair of the Education Scrutiny Committee. This gave me the opportunity to develop public speaking skills and leadership of a large organisation with an annual budget of 600 million. I also lead council meetings and worked on pan London committees.
I worked with local businesses, charities, sports groups and residents to develop and campaign for sefivce changes. I worked on a political parties e-campaign materials.
I was an accredited IdEA (now the Local Government Improvement and Development Agency) peer mentor and graduate of the IdEA Leadership Academy.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
I am responsible for managing the programme, which is delivered in partnership with Kings’ College University and the Institute of Education (known as London Reach).
I teach and assess students as well as train existing teachers and school leaders to be coaches for course participants.
I also create course materials with London Reach colleagues. I create and maintain partnerships with schools in the North and East London area.
As a tutor on the MA in Education I teach students, and with colleagues write CPD modules with local schools for delivery in those schools.
I also teach on a Foundation Degree in a school to support staff that develops work and study skills with content based on creative leadership.
I am particularly interested in strategic planning for education services.
I am particularly interested in how decisions are made regarding resource allocation to meet priorities and provide best value.
I am interested in developing mixed methods research in education.
I completed a study on change management at a local authority with regard to ICT.
Currently I am looking at sport as a means of fostering greater community cohesion.
My Docotoral work will look at how policy is interpreted by teachers into practice
Complexity Theory and educational change/leadership
I am also looking at how schools and local authorities understand and tackle inequality.
Presently, working on a BELMAS (British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society) project into Industrial Relations in English schools. This is being conducted within two locationsin England with colleagues from Warwick and Lincoln Universities.
The work I am undertaking on my Education Doctorate is borne from the need to address social inequality. I have completed work on Critical Race Theory and methodology as well as Complexity Theory and Leadership
