Brief biography

Helen has taught in mainstream, special schools and Further Education Colleges. Her experience of teaching across the whole age range, from early years to further education, has provided a broad perspective on education. For a number of years she has taught in Higher Education on both undergraduate and post graduate programmes, and has developed professional training for SENCOs. Her research interests on inclusion have led to projects involving Local Authorities; the developing role of special schools; and international collaboration with professionals working in the field of Special Educational Needs and inclusion. She has also undertaken consultancy with Early Years Partnerships and Local Authorities on inclusion, and SEN.

Areas of Interest/Summary of Expertise

Academic Subject Area:

Issues related to the broad area of inclusion involving children with Special Educational Needs and children from Refugee and Traveller Communities, children’s rights, multi-disciplinary teamwork, professional development of SENCOs.
