Brief biography

Camelia has a long career in youth and community work starting as a part-time volunteer before graduating into a full-time qualified position of employment with the Youth and Community Services.

Camelia has worked for several inner city London Boroughs in the voluntary and statutory sector as a Senior and Principal worker developing and working on specialist programmes in Art, Fashion and Dance, girls and young women's work, Special Educational Needs, disability and a youth unemployment.

Camelia worked with Tower Hamlets managing the Youth and Community service commissioned contract before joining the Youth Service as their Policy and Performance Manager.

Camelia has now joined UEL as a Senior Lecturer on the BA Hons Youth and Community Work programme to lecture on fieldwork practice. Her experience and expertise is in quality assurance and delivery of relevant teaching, training and support to embed the quality of practice, performance and delivery of face to face and direct youth service provision.

Camelia has worked closely with the production of the youth service curriculum framework, management information systems and introducing policy for youth work to support best practice and procedure.

Achievements have included supporting Tower Hamlets youth service  to achieve the Youth Service National Youth Agency Quality Charter Mark and the project management of additional funding such as the Youth Opportunity Fund, Positive Activities for Young People, London Mayors Youth Offer, Working Neighbourhood Fund, Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and VTalent Year for volunteering.

  • Other rsponsibilities are to support and broker employer engagment for students undertaking fieldwork placements.

Areas of Interest/Summary of Expertise

Camelia has a range of experience in training youth provision in  leadership and management struture and supporting projects to raise their partcipation and engagement of young people using recorded and accredited curriculum delivery. Camelia's other interest and qualifications include being a qualified assessor for the NVQ level 2 and 3 in youth work, an AQA coordinator and an external examiner for the BA Hons youth and community programme and Peer Inspector for youth services.
