About Early years

The Early Years subject area is popular and extremely well-established within the Cass School of Education and Communities. We have a team of experts from a variety of professional backgrounds and cultures who have a wealth of experience working in this area for many years.

All our programmes provide a holistic approach to the study of children, the experience of childhood and the implications for practice. It will enable you to develop insights and understandings relating to how children and childhood are understood from a range of academic and professional perspectives and to understand the philosophies, beliefs and attitudes that inform them. At Master’s level, you will gain an advanced understanding of early childhood studies from national and international perspectives.

After successful completion of an undergraduate programme, you will have the opportunity to choose from several postgraduate programmes through which professional qualifications, such as primary teaching, children’s nursing, midwifery or social work, can be attained. In addition to these professional programmes Early Childhood Studies graduates have found employment with Local Authorities, Health Authorities, Charities, Housing Associations, and Day Nurseries.
