UEL is a 21st century university with campuses to match.
Our Docklands campus was London's first new university campus to be built in over half a century.
Opened by the new Mayor of London on his very first day in office in 2000, it has won acclaim for its iconic architecture and was short-listed for Building of the Year.
Our Stratford site, meanwhile, with renovated historic buildings sat along modern purpose built-labs and centres of excellence, more than equals Docklands' reputation for cutting-edge facilities.
University Square, to be located in the heart of Stratford, is a unique collaboration between Birkbeck, University of London and the University of East London. Our joint vision is to create a major new university hub which will meet the growing aspirations of local people in the heart of east London. Students will be able to study in order to reskill and upskill, to enhance their employment possibilities. It will provide education facilities not only for Birkbeck and UEL, but also our partner institutions and organisations.

“The university has undergone a transformation in the past decade and now finds itself at the heart of London’s regeneration and drive towards the Olympics. . . . The pace of change at UEL shows no sign of abating.
“UEL is the embodiment of the modern university.*
