Petra is a Senior Lecturer in tourism. After working for several years for a German SME, she decided to pursue further study overseas out of an interest in issues of tourism management and a fascination for Australia. She graduated with a Master of Business in International Travel & Tourism Management from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, and subsequently accepted a scholarship from the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre and Tourism Queensland to undertake her doctorate at the same university. Her thesis examined the potential implications of demographic change, in particular population ageing and changing family structures, for tourism in an Australian context but she has since expanded her research interests to include aspects of destination image, marketing, study and travel, and the media. Prior to coming to UEL, Petra taught at Monash University, Melbourne, and the University of Queensland in both the undergraduate and postgraduate tourism programmes.
In addition to her teaching and research activities, Petra is the Programme Leader for the BA International Tourism Management as well as a member of the School Board and the Research & Knowledge Exchange Committee.
Petra’s main areas of research interest are currently Destination Image, Tourism and the Media, Education and Travel, Demography and Tourism, Destination Management, and Tourism Futures and Scenarios.
