The Research group in Ethics and Risk in Finance provides a forum for colleagues to present research ideas and concepts and provide support and development opportunities for new researchers. The research group also seeks to facilitate the identification and progression of collaborative research and knowledge exchange projects. Improving the support for and recruitment of doctoral students is an important role of the group in fostering an active research culture, investing in supervisory capacity and nurturing skills and knowledge in research supervision. Externally we seek to develop links with other institutions: academic, government and commercial. We will also provide a focus for knowledge exchange activity. This is achieved by promoting the value of research undertaken within the research group and facilitating collaborative responses to knowledge dock proposals. We welcome membership applications from external institutions and individuals.

This group brings together researchers in the School who are investigating:
We offer research degree supervision and the ability to undertake research projects in the above areas.
We share an interest in applying social science theories and methods to such business, organisational and managerial issues, and to the business environment.
By ‘human services’ we mean a broad range of services concerned with the well-being, transformation or regulation of people and that are dependent on human interaction to bring this about. The associated theme of ‘mobilities’ reflects our interest in the fact that Humanity is on the move as never before, whether for reasons of work, business, study, pleasure & leisure, family reunion, health, politics/diplomacy or asylum.

At the Petchey Centre for Entrepreneurship we recognise the need for solid research-based understanding of the processes involved in generating successful new businesses.
We are therefore engaged in a research programme exploring themes of interest to policy-makers, funders of businesses and the academic community in the UK and abroad. Some of this research is action-based in collaboration with local SMEs.
Themes under current or planned investigation include Black and Minority Ethnic Business Growth Trajectories (building on UEL’s pioneering Black Business Observatory), Faith and Entrepreneurship, Women as Entrepreneurs, the Export Orientation of Regional SMEs and Regeneration through Entrepreneurship.
A programme of research seminars is held, and the Centre invites applications for PhD study. We also have a scheme for visiting scholars.
