RDBS scholars are recognised for their work in the field of equality and diversity, and our team at the Noon Centre is always on-hand to answer any questions and assist you in whatever way we can. 

Professor Sonny Nwankwo, Director of the Noon Centre for Equality and Diversity in Business 

Professor Sonny Nwankwo (PhD, FCIM, FHEA, FRSA) is Director of the Black Business Observatory and the founding President of the International Academy of African Business and Development. He is visiting Professor at universities across Africa, Europe and Australasia. His publications, spanning the fields of marketing, entrepreneurship and international business, have received awards and citations of excellence. He developed his research specialism in consumer studies, incorporating consumerism, corporate marketing integrity and brand values.From exploring the dialectics of power in marketplace interactions, he extended his research to entrepreneurship (using the platform of entrepreneurship to develop sensitive dialogue with African entrepreneurs in the UK) and the broader theme of managing enterprise-led transitions and sustainable development especially in sub-Saharan Africa.He is also external assessor and visiting professor at universities across Africa, Europe, Australasia and North America, founding President of the International Academy of African Business and Development, and former Vice-President of the Academy of World Business. 

 

Mark Watson

Employability Manager

The Centre also works with Employability and Enterprise Team, with the Employability Manager based within the Centre itself.

Mark joined the Royal Docks Business School in December 2009, from Adecco Recruitment. He worked there for five and a half years, providing temporary, interim and permanent staffing, outsourcing, career services, training and consulting. Prior to this, Mark spent five years in the sales industry selling advertising space and computer-aided design software as well as computers and training. Mark was educated at the University of Bedfordshire, studying a BA (Hons) in Business Administration, and his brief is to improve the employability of our students by looking at a range of initiatives that will help them with their future career prospects.

 

 

Ranjeeta Maharaj

Coordinator

BSc Information Systems and Management

With a background in administration, marketing and events management, Ranjeeta manages the day to day tasks of the centre. Working alongside the academics and the Director of the Noon Centre for Equality and Diversity in Business, she ensures student development projects and events associated with the Centre are completed successfully.

Dr Gilbert Karl (Gil) Robinson

An Experienced lecturer in organizational behavior, Dr. Gilbert has in-depth experience in advising on matters of Difference, Equal Opportunities and Diversity, Performance, Change and Strategic Management and has a series of publications on these matters. Gil is also a HRM and HRD consultant and works with organizations on developing effective solutions that enables organizations to enhance their bottom lines. 

 

 

 

 

Professor, Kazem Chaharbaghi

Current research interests include the economy, sociology and ecology of knowledge and innovation, and politics of meaning. These research themes critically explore: ways in which discourse promotes and embodies particular kind of values and interests, and actively constructs at the same time as it reflects reality in social organisation; the contestability of social concepts and constructs with no fixed meaning; the usage of contested concepts and constructs in fostering and extending particular values, agendas and practices; ways in which a dominant discourse governs truth as a regime and shapes the conditions for “knowing” within a given context; and the dynamics and struggle of competing discourses in winning legitimacy. Professor Chaharbaghi has undertaken work for organisations such as Hewlett-Packard, Rolls Royce, GEC-Althom, Ford and Van Leer, and has served as the Executive Board Member of the Management Division of IEE and Association for Global Business. He has over 100 publications which have appeared in journals such as Long Range Planning, Journal of General Management, British Journal of Management and Management Decision.

 

Dr. John Chandler

Dr John Chandler obtained a BA in Sociology at the University of Nottingham and an MPhil in Social Policy and Administration at the University of Kent before heading to Sweden, where he was awarded a PhD in the Sociology of Work from Luleå University of Technology. 

Founding member and Director of a research group in the Royal Docks Business School – originally the Organisation Studies Research Group and now the Human Services and Mobilities Research Group, Dr. Chandler has over 47 major research publications in peer reviewed journals and books and in-depth experience in gender and work matters. His expertise also lies in Work and identity, Sociology of emotions, Social movements, and Public services management and leadership.

MBA Students

Management professionals from Germany study the Royal Docks Business School MBA via our agreement with the University of Applied Sciences in Köln. Students have regular classes at the University in Köln, and have periods of intensive study at Docklands campus.
