Entry into this educational market requires that the institution concerned offer specific technical knowledge, skills and experience. The proposed programmes are unique in offering both a rigorous education in Islamic finance combined with a developed appreciation of the demand presented by financial firms and markets.

The MSc. Islamic Banking and Finance programme structure has been developed with progression to professional or research careers in mind. The programme has also been mapped against Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) benchmarks.

Education programs offered include:

It contains four core 30 credit modules as well as one 60 credit dissertation, and students who earn 180 credits will be awarded with MSc. Islamic Banking and Finance

This programme aims to develop competent professionals who are well qualified and practiced in Islamic banking and finance.

  • Ph.D in Islamic Banking and Finance

The School offers PhD and MPhil programme in Islamic Finance and banking based on original research. The programme is aimed at producing personnel who are well-versed in the principles and concepts of Islamic banking and finance through providing comprehensive education and rigorous training for practitioners in banking and finance industry to be conversant with all aspects of the operation of Islamic banking. The programme is available on part time or full time basis.

We also seek to gain the support of the Islamic Finance sector in providing our students with internships, mentors, and funding for special projects and scholarships.

Research

Research agenda

The Research agenda focuses on various areas of Islamic Banking and Finance. Priority research topics are proposed by the Advising committee established for this purpose. Research topics supported include the following:

  • Sukok performance
  • Islamic Microfinance and Development
  • Financial Performance of Islamic Finance Institution
  • Social Responsibility and Islamic Finance

Research Chair and Associates Initiative

Under the direction of the Dean, the Centre will establish one Research Chair and two associates over the next three years to support and develop the research output of the centre.  The Chairs will be in line with the key strategic areas of the Centre.

Islamic Finance Network

The Centre is developing a world-wide network with professional people, peer organizations and role players in the Islamic finance industry to carry out its activities in efficient and effective manner.

Open Lectures and seminars

Delivered by professionals and academics the Centre holds open lectures which provide Islamic banking solutions to financial institutions across the world and brings together stakeholders from within and outside the University to pursue their interests in Islamic banking and finance.
