Research

Research at RDBS reflects the values and vision of our University to be an enterprising, international university bringing transformational opportunities to individuals, communities and businesses in our region, through diversity, partnership and excellence in teaching and research.  It is in this context that RDBS in recent years has created a thriving research environment in order to:

  • Contribute to original thinking and the creation, growth and dissemination of knowledge.
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge which underpins learning and teaching to ensure students receive an adequate academic challenge.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative offerings which in turn help the development of external communities, organisations and other bodies.

In realising these RDBS has established itself as a key player in the development of critically oriented research that contributes to a broadening and deepening of the field. This has been achieved by extending the boundaries of this area of study to embrace theoretically informed approaches from other disciplines or approaches. In this, colleagues from RDBS have sought to apply these theoretically informed approaches comparatively, often integrated with rigorous empirical work, in international contexts - most notably across Europe and beyond to Asia and Africa. In so doing, RDBS has increased collaboration with other institutions, communities, organisations and bodies.
