Professional Body Partners

Royal Docks Business School is proud to be working with some of the leading professional bodies in the business field. Where possible we aim to build in professional body accreditation so that students have already started on the road to professional qualification by the time they graduate from their undergraduate or postgraduate course. This means that when our graduates join a business organisation they can more speedily take on a full professional role.

The Royal Docks Business School has recently attained membership from the following bodies:

European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)

EFMD is recognized globally as an accreditation body of quality in management education and has established accreditation services for business schools and business school programmes, corporate universities and technology-enhanced learning programmes.

Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)

The University of East London has recently been accepted into the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), an international network that encourages quality in management education.

The AACSB has a long reputation for driving fresh thinking and innovation in business and management education. This new link will help UEL to develop new international educational experiences for students and deliver programmes overseas.

Accreditations

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)

CIM is the world’s largest organisation for professional marketers playing a key role in training, developing and representing the marketing profession. The Institute has members through the World, and a formal CIM presence in nine other countries. Royal Docks Business School is also proud that our BA Hons. Marketing degree and our MSc in International Marketing Management are accredited as entry points for the CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.

Association of Project Managers (APM)

Project management is represented in the UK by the Association for Project Management (APM) and they are currently seeking Chartered status from the Crown. The expectation is that this will be confirmed during 2010. The APM recently awarded Accreditation for the MSc in Project Management and the School will receive official certification shortly. Students on the MSc are also taught the PRINCE2 curriculum, examinations of which are owned by the Office of Government Commerce and implemented by the APM. The exams are provided free of charge to MSc Project Management students.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

Our BA degrees in Accounting & Finance, Accounting and degrees that have Accounting are recognised by ACCA. Graduates from these programmes are able to claim exemptions from a maximum of nine, eight or seven ACCA exam papers respectively, providing they have chosen the appropriate option modules, ninebeing the maximum number of exemptions available from ACCA.

Graduates who wish to become professionally qualified accountants may then complete the remaining Professional level examinations, which must be taken as external examinations, within a year. Understandably, employers value the exemptions to the ACCA examinations that our graduates enjoy – as do our students, since very many of them go on to become full ACCA members.

Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)

Our postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management is accredited by the CIPD. On completion of the programme students become graduate members of the CIPD, which we know makes them of greater value to employers. The School is also a CIPD Licensed Upgrading centre, which allows us to consider applications from graduates of this programme to be upgraded to Chartered Member of the CIPD. Chartered membership is recognised with the HR profession as the 'gold standard’ and provides access to senior HR roles. By having a programme accredited by the CIPD students also develop continuing professional development skills and techniques for the practical application of key HRM theory and strategies. The CIPD recently launched accredited qualifications for Level 2 undergraduates. We hope soon to incorporate this into our new BA in HRM.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

The CMI is the only chartered professional body dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence. Royal Docks Business School is proud of its long relationship with the Institute. Click here for the full list of CMI recognised degrees.

Students studying on these degrees can take out Affiliate membership of CMI and can then proceed to a fast track Professional membership when they graduate. Postgraduate full professional membership (MCMI) status is available to postgraduate students if they have three years management experience.

Institute of Operational Risk (IOR)

UEL is the forefront of developing Masters provision in the expanding risk management sector. The Institute, as reflects the industry, is relatively new but has a drive and passion in regard to Operational Risk in developing standards and education, also providing a forum to exchange ideas and best practice within the industry. The MSc Risk Management programme has been endorsed by the Institute of Operational Risk.
