Black Business Observatory (BBO)

Welcome to the Black Business Observatory (BBO)

Thank you for visiting the Black Business Observatory (BBO). The establishment of BBO was made possible by funding provided by the London Development Agency (LDA). The overarching aim is to offer a coordinated portal to contain information, research and market intelligence regarding Black-owned Businesses (Black as defined by the Office for National Statistics).

UEL Docklands Campus - Home of the Observatory

At BBO, we are working towards achieving an international ‘centre of excellence’ reputation, for applied research relating to SMEs and local economic development.  Driven by the philosophy of scholarship of enagement, we are committed to constantly redrawing boundaries in enterprise development and entrepreneuship – our research ethos characterised by originality, uniqueness and relevance. We actively engage in research activities that explore the ‘everydayness’ of entrepreneurship at sector-specific, group and individual levels. Working closely with the business services arm of our University, Knowledge Dock and the Petchey Centre for Entrepreneurship, we use the platform of enterprise and entrepreneurship research to develop sensitive dialogue with important stakeholder groups, with specialism on black entrepreneurship.
