Welcome

Welcome to the University of East London (UEL) and this website for the 2012 BASES Student Conference due to take place on the 11th and 12th April 2012. I am the organiser of the conference, I have been a BASES accredited sport and exercise scientist since 2005 and a member of BASES since 2003. The sport science team at UEL put together a bid for the conference and were successfully awarded the rights to host the conference in August 2010.

The UEL sport science team are currently working hard to put together a friendly, academically rigorous and enjoyable conference. I am very aware that for many delegates this will be their first experience of attending an academic conference and factors such as networking may not be at the forefront of delegates minds. I believe that networking is a key benefit of attending a conference, the relationships you form at events such as this could and have proved extremely beneficial to delegates future careers. As a result of this there will be a networking event the night before the start of the conference to encourage this process.

We are fortunate to be in very close proximity to the Olympic Park and will give delegates an opportunity to see the park just before the start of the 2012 games. The theme of the conference is 'Issues for supporting and researching with Olympic and Paralympic athletes' All of the keynote presentations will be within this context.

I am personally looking forward to welcoming delegates to UEL and showcasing UEL to the academic community. I look forward to meeting you all in April.
