UEL Professional Standards Framework

In 2005 the UEL Professional Standards Framework (PSF) was established to provide a more consistent structure for continuing professional development for staff. The PSF offers staff opportunities to gain qualifications, credits or recognition for their participation in professional development, supported at the core by a process of personal reflection and planning.

UEL’s PSF is based on the UK Professional Standards Framework, which was initially proposed in the White paper The Future of Higher Education (2003) and is operated by the HEA on behalf of Universities UK, the Standing Conference of Principals, and the UK Higher Education funding councils.

The UK PSF defines

• Six ‘Areas of Activity’
• Six areas of ‘Core Knowledge’
• Five ‘Professional Values’

The UEL PSF is mapped to the National Professional Standards Framework for supporting learning and teaching and was accredited by the Higher Education Academy as part of a national CPD initiative.

UEL’s Professional Standards Framework (PSF) aims to support and enable:

• High quality teaching and learning for all students
• Creativity, innovation and continued professional development in teaching, learning and assessment
• Evidence of professionalism and excellence in academic practice
• Achievement of Fellow or Associate status of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) for all colleagues involved in teaching and supporting learning

UEL’s PSF now offers 2 routes by which Fellow or Associate of the HEA can be achieved. For further information, please contact your School or Service Leader in Learning and Teaching or the PSF Servicing Officer, Dallas Davis.
