The Higher Education Academy - The Academy is an independent organization whose purpose is to help institutions, discipline groups and all staff provides the best possible learning experience for their students.
Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education - The QAA is an independent body whose core business is to review the quality and standards of higher education in universities and colleges. One of its key projects is the ongoing audit of Higher Education Institutions.
Society for Research into Higher Education - The SRHE is an independent society which aims to improve the quality of higher education through the encouragement of debate and publication on issues of policy, on the organisation and management of higher education institutions and on the curriculum, teaching and learning methods.
Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) - SEDA is the professional association for staff and educational developers in the UK, promoting innovation and good practice in higher education. SEDA is seen by many as the shaper of thought and initiator of action in staff and educational development, not only in the UK but in the international domain also.
The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (ISSOTL) - The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (ISSOTL) serves Academics and students who care about teaching and learning.
The goal of the Society is to foster inquiry and disseminate findings about what improves and articulates post-secondary learning and teaching. ISSOTL is organized to recognize and encourage scholarly work on teaching and learning in each discipline, within other scholarly societies, and across educational levels as well as facilitates the collaboration of scholars in different countries.
Dr Julie Baldry Currens, Director of Learning & Teaching and Jules Cassidy, Leader of Learning & Teaching, SSMCS attended the 2008 ISSOTL Conference in Edmonton, Canada in October. At the Conference, both Julie and Jules presented papers introducing UEL’s Professional Standard Framework and Academic Integrity to the international learning and teaching community.
Dr Julie Baldry Currens (j.baldrycurrens@uel.ac.uk) is a National Teaching Fellow of the HE Academy and a current UEL Teaching Fellow. Jules Cassidy ( j.cassidy@uel.ac.uk) is also a UEL Teaching Fellow.
