1. What is e-Submission?

e-Submission refers to the electronic submission, electronic marking and electronic feedback of work. The e-Submission cycle is as follows:

  1. You submit your coursework electronically via Turnitin.
  2. Academic Staff access the submitted work and provide feedback electronically using Turnitin GradeMark.
  3. Once the work has been marked and feedback is available, you will access the same Turnitin link you submitted you work to and view or download the feedback provided.

2. What are the benefits for me?

The move towards e-Submission has a number of benefits for you. For example:

  • You will be able to submit your assignment from any computer with an internet connection. You do not have to be on campus to submit your work.
  • You do not need to queue at a school helpdesk to submit a hard copy of your assignment.
  • The time you have to submit by may be increased (check with your module leader for specific time constraints) to up to 23.59hrs on the day of submission, as submission is not constrained by Helpdesk opening times.
  • There will be a cost saving as you will not be required to pay for printing of assignments for physical hand in.
  • As with the submission of coursework, you will be able to access your feedback from anywhere, further reducing unnecessary trips to campus and Helpdesk queuing.
  • As all feedback will be provided on your submission electronically, the legibility and the length of the feedback should be increased.

3. How will I know if my assignment is required to be submitted electronically?

4. Do I still need the Barcoded Front Sheet?

5. How do I submit my work electronically?

You are required to submit your work to Turnitin. In accordance with the Turnitin Policy, Turnitin is available for you to submit your work as many times as you like before the deadline. In order to submit to Turnitin you need to log into the appropriate UEL Plus module site (via UEL Direct) and navigate to the Turnitin link.

Once within the Turnitin link you will need to click ‘Submit’ and then navigate to the document you need to submit. Detailed guidance on submitting to Turnitin is available from the Student Support and How to Information section of the e-Submission Guidance.

6. How many times can I submit to Turnitin?

Turnitin is provided as a formative tool for you and you can submit your work as many times as needed up until the deadline. You are encouraged to submit a draft of your work early to Turnitin to allow potential plagiarism and academic integrity issues to be identified and rectified. Submitting a new document to Turnitin will overwrite the previous submission, so you will not be seem as plagiarising with your previous submission.

If you are unable to resubmit your work to Turnitin, contact your module leader and request you be allowed to submit your work again. Once the deadline has passed, your final submission will be the one that is marked.

7. How many documents can I submit to Turnitin?

Turnitin will only allow for a single document to be submitted. If your assignment has multiple sections, these should be combined together into a single document (e.g. Microsoft Word or PDF) prior to submission. If you are required to attach a front sheet, this should be added as the first page of the document.

If you submit a different document to Turnitin, it will be overwritten and your original submission will not be available.

8. What if I have accessibility considerations preventing me from submitting to Turnitin?

If you have disability or accessibility considerations which may affect you submitting your work to Turnitin, you will need to liaise with your Module Leader and the Disability Dyslexia Access Centre (DDAC). Liaising with both the Module Leader and DDAC will ensure an appropriate reasonable adjustment is put in place for you, removing any possible disadvantage for your submission.

If you have been provided with a Dyslexia or other disability certificate from the DDAC, you will need to add this as the first page of your submission to Turnitin GradeMark, allowing the marker to see the provided certificate
