UEL Professional Standards Framework

Demonstrate your commitment to learning, teaching and supporting learning – gain recognition from the Higher Education Academy

The UEL Professional Standards Framework (UELPSF) enables you to gain national recognition of your commitment to professionalism in teaching and supporting learning in higher education.

It offers colleagues opportunities to gain qualifications, credits or recognition for their participation in professional development, supported at the core by a process of personal reflection and planning.

The UELPSF was reaccredited by the HEA in September 2012 and is based on the UK Professional Standards Framework, operated by the HEA on behalf of the HE sector.

There are 4 categories – you can achieve the one that is most appropriate for you and can use the Framework to think about how you may wish to progress your career.

  • D1 Associate Fellow
  • D2 Fellow
  • D3 Senior Fellow
  • D4 Principal Fellow

The UELPSF aims to support and enable demonstration of our commitment to:

  • offering high quality teaching and learning for all students
  • creativity, innovation and continued professional development in teaching, learning and assessment
  • professionalism and excellence in academic practice
  • assuring quality enhancement in teaching + supporting learning

The UELPSF consists of 3 strands:

  • the accredited PG Cert in L&T in HE - for further information, contact the Programme Leader, Warren Kidd within the Cass School of Education and Communities. The Decision Gate provides guidance on helping colleagues decide if the PG Cert is most appropriate option for them
  • Direct Applications to the HEA - we will support those who choose to apply directly to the HEA but it should be noted that there are significant costs levied by the HEA for direct applications
  • CPD Route - it is this option that is suitable for most existing colleagues and we would urge every colleague to apply.  Full details are available from the links at the bottom of this page.

The current Chair of the UELPSF said:

“I am delighted that UEL is able to award all categories of HEA Fellowship.  We are very pleased to be one of the first HE Institutions to gain this accreditation following the publication of the revised UKPSF.  We continue to build on our highly successful original UELPSF. Since 2008, nearly 300 colleagues have successfully achieved Fellowship through our CPD Route and around 100 through successful completion of the PG Cert.  We are proud of this achievement. It is clear articulation of UEL’s commitment to delivering high quality teaching and support of learning to our students.  With our refreshed and updated UELPSF, our aim is to offer all colleagues involved in teaching and supporting learning, the help and guidance needed to gain the appropriate category of Fellowship.”  [July 2014, Warren Kidd]
