Using TurnItIn and Providing Feedback with Grademark

The TurnItIn session is designed to give staff an overview of the plagiarism teaching and detection tool (TurnItIn) in the VLE.

TurnItIn is used by students to check their work prior to final submission and may also be used by staff to identify potential plagiarism offences. The Grademark facility within TurnItIn allows staff to provide textual feedback to students that relates directly to each individuals submitted work.

This staff development is divided into two parts which may be booked together or separately, according to your need. The first is provided for new and / or inexperienced users of TurnItIn whereas the second section deals with more advanced features and attendees would need to be familiar with the processes and procedures covered in the first session if attending Part 2 as a standalone session.

Part 1 will cover the following:

  • Creation of TurnItIn links through the VLE
  • the Student submission process
  • the investigation of student submissions via the Originality Report

Part 2 will cover the following:

  • Setting up the assignment for Grademark including use of anonymous marking and Post date
  • Providing direct feedback and comments regarding the students' work with the Grademark tool, including the creation of Quickmark sets to allow re-use of comments within and across VLE sites
  • Allocating a mark and managing the Gradebook in the VLE
