| Title | Using a Wiki for Educational Purposes |
| Length | 120 minutes |
| Overview | Wiki software can be free and also hosted on the supplier’s server (so there need be no added costs or technical problems with organising server space with IT Services). It’s common to have a wiki web site set up and running within half an hour, with at least the structure of pages created and a ‘home page’. Students then access the wiki from within your UEL Plus site through an embedded web link. Or, if it’s better in your particular context, they can access it directly on the web. The uses range enormously. E.g. groups of students creating project reports online; supporting preparation for assessment; collaborative sharing of resources related to study by the students themselves; online role plays addressing real-world application of study; bringing in ‘outside experts’ who wouldn’t usually have access to our VLE; providing administrative information or study to First Year students in the first weeks of the semester when they all might not be able to access the VLE. |
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
This staff development session can be delivered as a standalone session for a small group (between 4-8 participants). If you are interested in arranging a standalone session for a team or department please email elearning@uel.ac.uk with details of the session(s) you are interested in.
If you are interested in attending a centrally organised session please email elearning@uel.ac.uk with details of the session you are interested in. Depending on individual interest we will endeavour to run at least one session a semester.
