| Overview | This staff development session provides a practical introduction to the communication tools in UEL Plus i.e. Announcements, Calendar, Mail, Discussions, Chat and Who's Online. This session will give participants hands on experience of all the tools, with particular emphasis on the use of discussions both for whole class and small group interaction. It also includes examples of best practice and advice on how to choose the most appropriate communication tool for given situations. It is suitable for anyone with a basic knowledge of UEL Plus who would like to make more effective use of the communication tools with their students. |
Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Select the appropriate communication tool in a variety of different situations.
- Create announcements using the Announcements tool and the page header.
- Create and manage calendar entries.
- Describe the role of the mail tool for managing module specific communications.
- Participate in discussions.
- Set up different types of discussion topics.
- Describe the role of Who's Online for individual communications.
- Participate in a Chat room, and understand how to set up Chat rooms and view logs.
- Customise standard settings for all communication tools covered in this session.

This staff development session can be delivered as a standalone session for a small group (between 4-8 participants). If you are interested in arranging a standalone session for a team or department please email elearning@uel.ac.uk with details of the session(s) you are interested in.
