Students often feel anxious and insecure about exams. Sometimes, the fear of failure leads to rash behaviour, but it is simply not worth it. Exam Invigilators are trained to spot irregularities and the consequences of breaching our Academic Misconduct Regulations in exams can be severe.
Give yourself time to prepare properly for your exam, so that you are not rushing your revision at the last minute (if you do prepare a set of notes to read on the bus on the way to the exam, make sure that you dispose of them before you enter the exam room).
If you feel that your revision is not going well, speak to your lecturer or tutor. Seek assistance (it’s there if you ask), before you make a decision that could end your academic career altogether.
Never take any material into an examination (unless the examination requires particular equipment such as “an open book exam”)
If an Invigilator has any concerns and asks to see a piece of paper that you are using, it is a serious breach of regulations to refuse to do surrender it.
Any abuse, verbal or physical, of an Exam Invigilator will not be tolerated and will be pursued as serious academic misconduct.
Always ensure that your mobile telephone is turned off and placed face down under your desk.
