I joined UEL in June 2009, to assist the Learning Designers in developing distance and e-learning programmes. I am an enthusiastic exponent of new technologies, with particular emphasis on their use in teaching and learning. As a secondary school teacher I built up a portfolio of e-learning resources that I designed and made for my own use, and I embrace the process of creating high quality learning materials that are both accessible and challenging.
My initial training was in Fashion Design, during which time I won two national competitions, one for illustration, and one for report writing. I then went on to become Editorial Assistant at the Good Food Guide. There I became fascinated with computer graphics and gradually developed into a freelance graphic designer/copywriter/sub-editor and eventually website builder.
With the new century came a new career, when I returned to University to train for a PGCE, specialising in Design and Technology. As a teacher I excelled at the creative planning of schemes and lessons, and the preparation of tasks and activities for engagement. It is this mix of skills that I hope will support and enrich the work of the team here in Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement.
