Dr Julie Baldry Currens is the Director of Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement at UEL where she leads the development and implementation of strategy, policy and practice with regard to the university's learning and teaching culture and associated student experience.
Her areas of particular interest, research and practice currently include: the rich and diverse methods by which students and colleagues support and enhance one another's learning as peers; student voice and student perception of their HE experience; professional standards in academic practice; the scholarship of learning, teaching and assessment and practice based learning and curriculum design. Julie's doctoral dissertation explored student perceptions of peer learning and practice based learning, and in 2007 Julie was awarded a HEA National Teaching Fellowship for her work in this area.
Julie is Chair of the Institutional Learning & Teaching Committee, Academic Integrity Sub Committee and Professional Standards Framework Sub Committee. Julie is also Chair of the Joint Staff and Student Consultative Committee at UEL and often Chairs Student Disciplinary Panels, Student Complaint and Appeal Panels and Academic Misconduct Investigating Panels.
Julie is also a member of the University's Senior Management Team, Academic Board and the Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee.
