Nigerian Alumni Reception - Saturday 25th June 2011, Lagos, Nigeria
Around 30 UEL Graduates based in Nigeria came together on Saturday 25th June at the Eko hotel and Suite, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
The event celebrated the 35th Anniversary of the Law School but was attended by Alumni from all subject areas. With both alumni that gradated nearly 30 years ago and alumni that graduated just last year in attendance, there was an interesting mix of guests providing an excellent opportunity for networking.
The evening was opened by a key note speech from John Shaw, Pro Vice- Chancellor, and International. John discussed UELs developments and future plans, as well as the Olympics; he
also took the time to remember some of the Law Schools prominent alumni.
The event was enjoyed by all in attendance, and a great success all-round! One of the guests Chukwumelukosieme Ezeaku after the event said; ‘Just want to thank you for taking the time to come around and interact with UEL alumni members in Nigeria. It was nice meeting you and sharing wonderful time

Volunteering: Not just good for the soul, good for your career too - Wednesday 9th June 2011, Stratford Campus
Nearly 100 graduates, students and staff of UEL gathered on Wednesday 9th June at our Stratford Campus to attend the School of Psychology’s 2011 alumni event titled, Volunteering: Not just good for the soul, good for your career too!
After welcomes from Charlie Tyce, Acting Alumni Development Manager and Professor Rachel Mulvey, Associate Dean of the School of Psychology the guests were treated to informative and inspiring talks from;
Professor Rachel Tribe, Professor of Psychology at UEL whose talk focused on how volunteering influenced and helped her in making her career choices, and how volunteering informed and enriched her professional career and practice as a Chartered Counselling and Organisational Psychologist.
We then went on to hear from Dr Sarah Davidson MBE, Programme Leader for the MSc in International Psychosocial Humanitarian Consultation and Deputy Clinical Director on the Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Sarah’s talk illustrated how volunteering can improved your career opportunities and develop your networks, and closed with a very moving video providing examples of volunteering in action.
After the talks the guests broke into two workshops one hosted by Professor Rachel Mulvey and one by Dr Sarah Davidson, all in attendance looked to come out of the workshops inspired and ready for action.
The night closed with time for our guests to network and discus what they had learnt over a buffet. A special thanks to; The British Red Cross and the UEL Employability and Enterprise team for also being on hand throughout the evening to talk to our graduates about possible volunteering and career opportunities.
