The Alumni Network is pleased to inform members that a successful and enjoyable 2nd reunion of the Delhi Chapter was held this month.  This reunion follows on from the launch meeting of the Delhi Chapter which took place in May of this year.  Again, the event was hosted by Lord Bill Lall (a UEL honorary graduate) who has worked hard to encourage alumni in India to meet, gather together and network in their region.

1st NovemberThe reunion took place at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi and started with drinks at the Orient Express Bar, then moved on to the Business Centre where members were introduced to each other, and discussed various issues surrounding the future plans of the group.  A pleasant dinner was had by all where they discussed the progress made so far for the group and how to move forward towards the next reunion.

An executive committee was formed which includes Atul Goyal (2005 MBA), Udit Bhandari (2004 MBA), Rajan Bhatia (2004 MBA) and Pawandeep Kohli (2006 MBA).  The group decided to hold the annual reunion each year in May, so are now looking forward to expanding the group to encompass more members for the 2009 reunion.

Launch of Indian Alumni Group – Delhi Chapter

Alumni Dinner, 3rd May 2008, Taj Palace Hotel, Delhi, India

A group of our Indian alumni met in May to have dinner hosted by the Alumni Office and local businessman and UEL honorary graduate, Lord Bill Lall.

Delhi 1Bill is one of UEL’s closest friends and supporters. Bill Lall travelled from India to the UK to study accountancy many years ago. After working in various companies including KPMG, Dunlop and PwC in Milan, he joined the British government as an accountant. In the early 1980’s, Bill ventured into real estate, buying and selling properties. In 2003, we awarded Bill with an honorary doctorate in Business Administration. He is also the first Asian to be elected to chair the Newham Chamber of Commerce. In 2001, he published his first book, an autobiographical and spiritual reflection, How to Grow Rich – and Enjoy Life.

The event gave alumni the opportunity to meet each other, network and reminisce about their time at UEL. The reunion started with drinks at the Orient Express bar, introductions by everybody and informal networking amongst the attendees. From there, in the Business Centre, Bill showed a CD of his graduation ceremony at the Barbican Centre and footage of our newly developed Docklands and Stratford campuses. The evening continued with food and drinks in the restaurant where everyone got to know each other better.

A formal group and executive committee was formed, who will organise reunions and meetings in the future for our Indian alumni. The executive committee will aim to meet 2-3 times a year and will invite more people in the region to join the group. The next meeting is scheduled for the first Saturday in August.

Atul Goyal (2005 MBA) who is one of the coordinators of the new group and has previously held meetings with our Indian alumni said. “Thanks to Lord Bill Lall and Emma – with their support, everybody had a nice time that evening, networked with each other and formed an alumni group to meet each other more often in future. The day, 3rd May 2008 will remain a memorable day for Indian alumni of the University of East London”.
