As an artist, the facilities were outstanding and the 24 hour library really helped me out. Upon graduation I decided to become a jewellery designer and set up a studio in east London. The relaxed environment and down to earth teaching staff enabled me to achieve my full potential. I'm very pleased to have had that experience"

Ann Haycock
2006 BA (Hons) Fine Art
Current Occupation:
Artist
After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art UEL in 2006, Ann Haycock is now concentrating on working as a contemporary artist in Cornwall. She was drawn like many other artists to this area by the Cornish environment and culture.
Ann Haycock‘s starting point for much of her work is in a direct response to a material and its articulation and transformation. Her practice encompasses time based, site specific, deconstruction/reconstruction and process based work.
Often her work could be described as using processes, material and methods of making that could be considered as female.
Ann Haycock is particularly interested in making site specific work within the Cornish landscape and collaborating with other local contemporary artists.
Ann says of her time at UEL: “the Fine Art course was both interesting and stimulating. I was advised prior to starting that the course would allow me to develop my own visual language – which it did”.
Katie Whiting
2007 BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Marketing
Current Occupation: Fashion Designer
Shortly after finishing her studies, Katie Whiting was awarded a prestigious Queen Elizabeth (QEST) scholarship worth over £9,000, footing the bill for an exciting internship at Vivienne Westwood’s shoe design department. Winning the QEST Scholarship meant she could take up an unpaid internship at Vivienne Westwood while completing a diploma in footwear.
Katie said: “I’m so excited about this opportunity to further my knowledge and experience, especially at my favorite label – it’s a definite chance in a lifetime! Studying at UEL gave me the tools to face the fashion world with confidence and vigor, and it's great to see my hard work pay off.
“Since graduating, I've become increasingly interested in footwear; shoes can be magical and have the ability to dictate the mood of the wearer. I want to make footwear that embodies confidence, sophistication, luxury and concept.”
While studying at UEL, Katie enjoyed work experience with Julien MacDonald, Basso and Brooke and Johnny Rocket. She has worked on garments worn by Paris Hilton and Dame Shirley Bassey, and was among the finalists for ‘Young Designer of the Year’ at the Clothes Show Live in December 2007.
Katie’s debut collection, sponsored by Swarovski and premiered at the 2007 Graduate Fashion Week, resulted in press coverage and numerous commissions. She has recently launched her own fashion label Katie Rose.
