About the programme

Our Advertising degree offers you a combination of approaches to the study of advertising through an exploration of the media, culture, economy and consumer behaviour and prepares students for employment in a range of promotional industries.

2-subject degrees

You can combine this programme with a range of other subjects as part of a 2-subject degree. Popular combinations include Advertising and Marketing, and Advertising and Event Management.

Programme structure

This is a three year programme in which students will study 6 modules in advertising per year if they are studying single honours, four for a major, three for a joint and two for a minor. Whilst the modules in the first year are determined, students will have the opportunity to tailor their programme at levels two and three by selecting some of their modules from a range of approved options and university wide options offered. In addition, at level two, students have the opportunity to go out on work placement.

Career opportunities

This programme prepares you for employment in advertising, market research, marketing, public relations and a range of related promotional industries. It is not a vocational training programme for a career in advertising and marketing, but provides a range of opportunities to explore the techniques and the significance of the contemporary advertising and allied industries.

Support

Each student will have a personal tutor at each level of the degree programme who is responsible for providing regular guidance and support in relevant areas of personal and academic life. In addition, students will have regular access to academic tutors on each of their modules. Additional support for study and research skills will be available in weekly lectures and workshops at level one and via the School’s Writing Centre.
