Brief biography

Ralph Hall set up his photography studio at the age of 25 and won his first D&AD award for his work on the Smirnoff campaign, ‘Well They Said Anything Could Happen’ four years later.

Prior to this he had been an assistant photographer at Vogue Studios working with the world’s top fashion photographers and later with David Montgomery one of Europe’s busiest advertising photographers.

During his career Ralph has worked in many areas of film and photography in a wide range of genres.

Ralph’s work was featured in Lord Snowdon’s TV programme on the history of photography.

The British Journal of Photography has featured Ralph’s work on their front cover plus articles on his advertising photography and more recently his black and white imaging.

Along with being the stills photographer on the BAFTA winning, Oscar nominated short, ‘Goody Two Shoes,’ and Duran Duran’s cult music promo, ‘The Chauffeur.’ Ralph has worked with most of London’s top advertising agencies producing above the line work for, British Airways, Qantas, TWA, Smirnoff, J&B Whisky, Fosters  Larger, Diners Club, Philips, Lloyds Bank, Nestles, P&G, Pirelli, RAC, TSB, and San Miguel among others.

His international career has included work with advertising agencies in, New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Toronto, Sydney, Copenhagen, Mumbai, UEA and Tokyo plus editorial work for the Danish TV magazine, Hjemmet.

Direct marketing and point of sale work have included, P&O, American Express, Visa, Muller Light, Imodium, CBS, Pierre Cardin, Garrard’s Jewellers, Hawaiian Tropic, Anchor Cream, HSBC, Thompson Holidays, Macmillan Cancer Relief, Frank Usher, Pirtek, Wembley Stadium, Seagram, Hilton, Hyatt, Michael Peters, Standard & Poor’s, Barclays Bank, Sega, Rothmans, M&S, Slix swimwear, Elizabeth Arden, The Corporation of London and ITN,

Within publishing, Conde Nast, Mitchell Beazley, IPC, Taylor & Francis, Hodder & Staunton, Pan, Penguin, TV Times and Dorling-Kindersley have all commissioned work.

Ralph continues to produce work for The Mousetrap. Photography on other West End Shows include, Buddy, Jolson, The Wizz and for many years has photographed TV and sports personalities for pantomime programmes and posters.

TV commercials include directorial and lighting work for, Lyons Maid, Nestle and Midland Gas.

Through Robert Montgomery and Partners, Ralph has worked with Sir Paul McCartney and Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis on McCarney’s ‘New World Tour.’ Stella McCartney on a triple EP for Australia, LIPPA’s fund raising world tour exhibition, the Rolling Stones, Linda McCartney, Diana Ross and EMI.

Lipton’s employed Ralph to photograph Richard Serra and document the placing of his ‘Fulcrum’ piece at London’s Broadgate complex.

Ralph has been involved with digital image manipulation since the 1980’s working with, Sytex, Paintbox and Mamba, the forerunners to Photoshop.
