Media Production Services (MPS) Overview

Students working in Mac Lab WB.1.27

‌The School of Arts and Digital Industries (ADI) hosts a range of media and multimedia production activities within its Media Production Services (MPS). This facility combines teaching, research and production activities in a state-of-the-art environment giving access to leading edge technologies and the support of highly skilled technical staff.

What does the MPS do?

  • It supports the multimedia production elements of academic programmes and research in the School of Arts and Digital Industries
  • It enables the generation of income to benefit the University, to enhance the Centre’s facilities and to extend its partnerships.
  • It supports the development of media and IT services in the University, where appropriate resources are made available. Currently this also involves providing support for Apple Macintosh facilities for the School.‌

Equipment Store

The Equipment Store is the "heart" of Media Production Services. It is where ADI students and staff can hire a huge variety of media equipment free of charge. We hire advanced video equipment (camcorders, tripods, lighting kits, steady cams, rifle microphones and SQN mixers), photographic equipment (DSLR cameras, full-frame film cameras, tripods, lighting kits and a variety of lenses), music equipment (PA kits, guitar and bass amplifiers, electric and acoustic guitars, basses, professional microphones, advanced synthesizers) and more. Computer labs

MPS has four Mac labs and two PC labs within the West Building as well as three Mac labs in AVA building. Mac labs have between 16 to 20 modern iMac workstations, all together over 120 seats. The software is standardised and consists of the usual suite of MS Office applications, Adobe CS5 suite, Apple Final Cut Pro 7 and Logic Pro 9 as well as Pro Tools 10 and Ableton Live 8. PC Labs have 16 and 17 (33 all together) seats and run the usual UEL suite of applications as well as 3D Studio Max and Unity for computer game development. All labs feature a projector and a high quality sound system. Link to MPS PC Labs and Mac Labs on MPS Microsite.
