Programme summary for B.Sc. (Hons) Software Engineering

This programme is designed to give you the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills to enable you to pursue a career managing and developing information systems in a contemporary business context, including the operational, strategic and practical issues in information systems currently relevant to enterprises of all sizes.

About the programme

Well-engineered, reliable and usable computer systems are crucial to the survival of most organisations and people who can design, implement and maintain these ever-evolving systems are in constant demand, enjoying rewarding careers.

2-subject degrees

You can combine this programme with a range of other subjects as part of a 2-subject degree. Popular combinations include Software Engineering with English Language, and Software Engineering with Media Studies.

Programme structure

Software engineering programmes are three or four years in length, as the sandwich degrees include a one-year work placement. If you want to change to one of our specialised degrees, rather than the Computing degree, this is easy to arrange. Students are able to work in groups to develop computer-based solutions to real-life situations, often in co-operation with local companies.

  • 200 UCAS tariff points or equivalent
  • Equivalent overseas qualifications IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
  • Relevant Access programme
  • Mature students, without appropriate academic qualifications but with relevant work experience, attend for interview and aptitude test
