If you are interested in how computers can be used to solve business problems, finding out more about what happens behind the computer screen, developing and using technical skills and using the Internet to develop solutions for organisations, this programme is for you.

Programme structure

Computing programmes are three or four years in length, as the sandwich degrees include a one-year work placement. If you want to change to one of our specialised degrees, rather than the Computing degree, this is easy to arrange. Students are able to work in groups to develop computer-based solutions to real-life situations, often in co-operation with local companies.

Career opportunities

There is still a significant shortage of up-to-date computing skills in the UK. Organisations need to have access to these skills to make best use of computing and internet resources.

  • Programme Leader support throughout the programme duration
  • Personal tutor support throughout the programme
  • Support for development of study skills, preparation for employment and research
  • Placement Office with well-established links with employers to provide support for finding placements
  • Specialist support for dyslexia and English as a second language
  • Student advice services for accommodation, finance, careers, IT training, learning resources.

Admission

  • 200 UCAS tariff points or equivalent
  • Gen Studies (AS/A2) and Key Skills allowed (levels 3 & 4). Requires numerate subject (Mathematics, Science subject, ICT, Geography or Business related subject).
  • Equivalent overseas qualifications IELTS 6.0 (Reading and Writing 6.0; Listening and Speaking 5.5) or equivalent
  • Relevant Access course
  • Mature students, without appropriate academic qualifications but with relevant work experience, attend for interview and aptitude test
