Martin Marriott graduated from Cambridge University with first class honours and trained with Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners, becoming a chartered engineer through the Institution of Civil Engineers with commendation for an essay of merit. After initial working experience on water engineering projects, he completed a London University MSc at Imperial College in Public Health Engineering (known now as Environmental Engineering), then gained further experience in UK and overseas with consulting engineering firms such as W.S.Atkins, totalling over ten years in professional practice. Subsequently moving to an academic post gave him the opportunity to complete his PhD at University of Hertfordshire, alongside duties there as a senior lecturer. His doctoral research was on flow in meandering and compound channels, and this was carried out in collaboration with HR Wallingford. Martin joined UEL in 2001, and has acted as a field and programme leader in civil engineering, as well as being quality leader for the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering. He has been Metropolitan Branch Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, in addition to various external examiner roles, and he publishes and reviews publications relating to hydraulics, hydrology and water engineering.
Chair of the School Quality Standing Committee
Member of UEL Quality & Standards Committee, External Examiners Sub Committe, School Management Team and School Board.
